September 2017
To still the adventurous spirit in me, Eric and I made a trip out to Colorado for the weekend. It was a fun-filled weekend, much like the trip to Cabo San Lucas, but this time around, we had an extremely tight schedule. Our plan was to land in Denver and explore the city for half a day before driving to Boulder, which served as a quarter-way point to Estes Park for the night. Next morning, we drove straight to Estes Park, and took a beautiful scenic mile hike around Bear Lake.
How to get there: We took a flight out from Los Angeles to Denver, and drove a rental car to Boulder (45 minutes out), where we stayed the night. Estes Park is the closest entrance from Denver, and about 1.5 hours from Boulder. At Estes Park, you can either take the shuttle that takes you to Bear Lake, or continue driving, but risk the possibility of an already full parking lot. Unfortunately, Trial Ridge Road was closed when we were there, because we managed to hit the first snow of the season. The advice was to get to Estes Park as early as possible to beat the crowd, but we arrived at a decent hour of 11:30am, and although the parking lot was full, people were going in and out, and we were still able to get a parking spot 2 minutes in.
Where to stay: Hotels are about $200-300/night around Estes Park. We were able to find an Airbnb in Boulder for a fraction of the cost.
Food:
Estes Park – Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ & Tap House
Boulder – Pasta Jay’s (Lobster Mac & Cheese is a must)
Stop by: Beaver Meadows Visitor Center for the best souvenirs.
